About the event

U.S. President Joe Biden has promised to oversee the country’s return to international engagement on global health, development, and humanitarian assistance. It will not come easy. With the COVID-19 pandemic still raging, climate change impacts bearing down, and the U.S. government’s own standing diminished by four years of retrenchment, Biden’s development agenda will face unprecedented demands and a need to rebuild internally.

As the White House assembles its development leadership team and reviews inherited policies, we’ll discuss:

  • How the new administration might look to tackle crises on multiple fronts.
  • How it might organize the global development community to carry out its agenda.
  • How the government could approach global health leadership.
  • How climate change might factor into development programs.
  • What’s in store for aid funding and development finance.

Erin Collinson is director of Policy Outreach at the Center for Global Development (CGD). In this role, Collinson regularly works to translate complex research content and distill key messages for busy officials and staff. Prior to joining CGD, she spent over five years working for a member of senior leadership in the US Senate, where she served as a lead policy advisor—developing a legislative agenda issues of environment, agriculture, rural development, and housing—and frequently represented the senator before constituents and national groups. Originally from the Chicago area, Collinson holds a Master of Development Practice degree from the University of Minnesota and a BA in Environmental Policy from Denison University.
